About Young Voices
Our mission is to provide Hawaii's young singers with the unique opportunity to the explore the world of solo voice performance. With group workshops, masterclasses, one-on-one sessions, as well as performance & critiquing opportunities, singers grow as artists, make contacts, and improve themselves as performers. Workshops will cover topics such as: use of the voice, diction, acting/movement, interpretation, stage combat, performance practice, and more!
• Members will work with members of the Hawaii Opera Theatre staff as well as local artists and professionals flown in specifically to work with them. In 2015/16 some of the artists the members worked with include Timothy Shaindlin from Yale, professional singers Jake and Jill Gardner, Mark Morash of the San Francisco Opera Center, professional singers Louis Otey and Maria Todaro-Otey, singer and Metropolitan Opera English Diction Coach Erie Mills, and others. The program ends with a concert by Young Voices members in March.
• 6 intensive weekends of workshops will be held over the year and in addition there will be periodic masterclasses with opera/musical theater professionals offered as well as invitations to performances.
• COST: The program is offered at no cost through a generous grant from the Arthur and Mae Orvis Foundation.
• Application Deadline: May 15, 2017
